Tips for Selecting a TakeCharge EN

SSDI or dual SSDI/SSI beneficiaries:

Select AATakeCharge Milestone LLC (milestone-outcome method) if:

  1. You expect your earnings to be more than $720 per month, but not enough to exceed Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) which is currently $1000 per month if your have a general disability, $1,640 per month for blind.
  2. You expect to earn a little more than SGA ($1000/month for general disability, $1,640/month for blind) but plan on remaining on benefits indefinitely by using Impairment Related Work Expenses or Work Subsidies.
  3. You do expect your benefits to be terminated due to your earnings once your trial work months are over, but you still have at least 2 more trial months left before that happens and you want your payments from TakeCharge to start as soon as possible.

All others on SSDI or both SSDI/SSI should select AAATakeCharge which uses the outcome-only method of payment. Outcome-only payments cannot start until your SSA benefit checks stop. And outcome-only payments from TakeCharge will stop if your earnings dip below $1000 per month. However, if you are confident of your work plans and you are almost finished with your trial work months, then outcome-only payments will yield about 10% more than milestone-outcome payments over the course of three years. See the Payment Chart below to compare Outcome only and Milestone-Outcome.

SSI Recipients:

Select AATakeCharge Milestone, LLC (milestone-outcome method of payment) if:

  1. You expect to earn over $720 per month but not enough to reduce your SSI check to zero.
  2. You think you might earn more than SGA ($1000/month for general and $1,640/month for blind) but still continue to receive a SSI check due to Impairment Related Work expenses or work subsidies.

If you are receiving only SSI checks, and you expect to earn enough to reduce your SSI check to zero, choose AAATakeCharge which uses the outcome-only payment method. If you can reduce your SSI check to zero and keep it there, you will receive about 10% more under the outcome-only payment method over the course of 5 years.

Still Not Sure?

We recommend you select AATakeCharge Milestone, LLC. It will pay about 10% less over the long term, but you typically receive your money a few months earlier and you can earn as little as $720 per month and still qualify for Work Support Payments.

(See Work Support Payment chart for more payment details).
